Can you get rid of wrinkles with Botox?
What is Botox treatment?
What is the difference between Botox and Botox cosmetics?
Yes, you can get rid of wrinkles with cosmetic injections such as Botox, though its effects are temporary. The length of time the results of Botox are noticeable varies from person to person though generally, it lasts three to four months.
Some patients see results last for only two months, while others may not notice the effects wear off until six months afterward. For clients using Botox for the first time, you may see the results last a shorter amount of time than expected. Over time, likely, the effects of Botox will gradually lengthen after every new treatment.
All kinds of wrinkles and lines over the body, both fine and deep, can be treated with Botox. However, it is most commonly known for its facial rejuvenation and anti-aging cosmetic benefits. This includes horizontal forehead lines and “11” lines, the vertical folds seen between the eyebrows.
Further, Botox can diminish the appearance of smile lines, which extend from the edge of the nose to the corner of the mouth, marionette lines, which extend from the corners of the mouth to the chin, and lines and dimples of the chin.
Crow’s feet, the small wrinkles are seen at the outer corners of the eyes, and bunny lines, wrinkles that appear on the bridge of the nose when scrunched, can also be treated with Botox. Additionally, creases of the chest can be treated; these are called decollate lines and form vertically over the breastbone.
Botox is not only the most commonly used injection for cosmetic purposes, but it is also the most common cosmetic procedure performed across the United States. Additionally, Botox cosmetic treatments have become a top choice across the world for wrinkle reduction.
Botox is a neurotoxin called a non-botulinum toxin and comes as type A or B. While the term “neurotoxin” sounds harmful, it is relatively safe and non-damaging. This treatment works by blocking specific nerve signals that cause muscles to contract, resulting in temporary localized paralysis. By relaxing these muscles, wrinkles and lines are smoothed.
Though this application does render the muscles immobile, sensation in the area is not disrupted, as the nerves responsible for sensation and pain are not affected. The effects of Botox typically wear off in four to six months, though this time frame varies between each patient.
Usually, patients do not experience any side effects of Botox, though redness, bruising, and inflammation are expected briefly after treatment but will dissipate. Complications of this minor procedure are minimized with administration from specialized health care providers, which may be a registered nurse or a dermatologist. Generally, the treatment is very quick and can be completed within ten minutes.
There are two types of non-botulinum toxin, A and B. Non-botulinum toxin A is primarily used for cosmetic treatments, while non-botulinum toxin B is used to treat various muscle diseases, like cervical dystonia.
Originally, Botox was used to treat conditions of the eye, like strabismus (cross-eye) or amblyopia (lazy eye). However, there are many other medicinal uses for Botox; for example, it can be injected into the armpits to reduce the production of sweat, effectively treating hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating). Further, Botox can be used to treat neck pain, muscle pain, TMJ pain, and chronic migraines. It has also been found to be helpful in the treatment of bladder dysfunction and incontinence.
